Silk Pillowcase Benefits

Do Silk Pillowcases Help Your Hair

Do silk pillowcases help your hair? That’s an affirmative YES.

As an ultra smooth fabric, silk pillowcases won't bind, twist or catch hair the way other fabrics do. Hair glides on silk rather than rubs. This benefit is enhanced when the silk is pure long strand mulberry silk, produced by mulberry-feeding silkworms with greater softness and smoothness. Thus, sleeping on silk pillowcases prevent hair knots, splits and breakage.  It also stimulates hydration, giving shinier hair and reduces sebum production which in turn decreases the chance of having greasy hair.

To simply put it, sleeping on silk pillowcases will help stop hair breakage, split and frizz. It’s a life saver if you have curly hairs or heavy hair drier user.

Do Silk Pillowcases Prevent Wrinkles

Do silk pillowcases prevent wrinkles? That’s another affirmative YES.

Face crease is caused by the friction between your face and the pillowcase. That's why the key to reduce facial crease is to minimize the friction. Obviously, natural mulberry silk has unbeatable smoothness and allows your skin to glide on the pillowcase.

Besides, the silk pillowcase, which is protein-rich in nature, won't take moisture and facial cream from your skin, keeping your face hydrated all the time.

If you are dry-skin (prone to have wrinkles) or bothered by skin ceases every morning, try silk pillowcases and you’ll get surprised.

Silk is natural heat regulator. Specifically speaking, it feels cool in summer and warm in winter, helping maintain the most comfortable skin temperature. Unlike other fabrics, silk sheets and duvet covers are highly absorbent and dries quickly, removing body sweat quickly without feeling damp.  Besides, the super softness and smoothness will help you relax, calm down and fall asleep naturally. Reduce Chemical Exposure

Silk is produced from domesticated silk worms that are bred and raised in captivity. They have no predators to defend against and are pampered throughout their life, helping to produce a fine silk fiber with little chemical exposure.  For those who skin tend to get allergic or itchy, silk sheets, duvets and pillowcase are highly recommended.

Brief Story Of Silk

Determined by the breeds of silkworms, there are four types of natural silk. Among them mulberry silk is the most important and contributes as much as 90% of the world production.  It is produced by domestic silkworm feeding solely on fresh mulberry leaves.

During the growing process, the silkworm spins a protective cocoon around itself so it can safely transform into a chrysalis.  In nature, the chrysalis breaks through the cocoon and emerges as a moth but in sericulture, the chrysalis inside is destroyed before it can break out of the cocoon so that the precious silk filament remains intact and the cocoons are processed into silk thread. We call this process filature. It is said that to make one yard of silk material, about 3,000 cocoons are used. That explains a lot why silk is regarded as the most luxurious among all fabrics.

Characteristics Of Natural Mulberry Silk

  • Rich in protein: the silk fiber is composed of 80% of fibroin and 20% of sericin.
  • Good tensile strength: silk is the strongest natural fiber and has moderate abrasion resistance, allowing it to take great pulling pressure.
  • Good elasticity: believe it or not, silk can be stretched from 1/7 to 1/5 of its original length before and breaking and return to its original size.
  • Good absorbency: due to the richness in protein, silk fiber can generally absorb about 11 percent of its weight in moisture.
  • Hypoallergenic: silk is hypoallergenic, helping sensitive, dry or itchy skin.
